Georgian National Museum presents the exhibition "Caucasus Biodiversity" in renewed exhibition halls. The exhibition is dedicated to the 100 years anniversary of the first democratic republic of Georgia.

Georgian Biodiversity
The Georgian National Museum preserves Caucasus's unique and splendid geological, botanical and zoological collections. Among them are rare, endangered and already extinct species.
Compiling the natural history collections now preserved in Georgian National Museum inaugurates since 1852. First exhibition-cabinet of the Museum of Natural Sciences, founded by naturist Friedrich Bayern, endured through 1856-1868. 150 years after the completion of the abovementioned exhibition, Georgian National Museum presents the exhibition "Caucasus Biodiversity".
It's noteworthy, that part of the exhibits showcased today, was presented at the Paris International Exhibition in 1867-1869 and many of them received gold, silver and bronze medals.
In the mid-19th century, German scientist and naturalist Gustav Radde made significant contributions to the development of museology in Georgia. Stuffed animal assortment, collected under his aegis, predicated the Caucasus's first zoological exhibition (1928-1972). Since then, the material stored in funds was under the constant supervision of museum specialists. Due to educational goals, the museum periodically arranged small-scale exhibitions.
Today, at the new exhibition created using modern museum technologies, visitors will see the biodiversity of the Caucasus region - Geological, botanical and zoological collections. The exhibition showcases Minerals, rocks, invertebrate animal fossils, herbariums, mollusks, insects, fishes, amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals - that perfectly reflect the evolutionary development of flora and fauna of Georgia and Caucasus region in general. The collection endures endemics, relicts and already extinct species, once widely spread over the Caucasus.
Special attention is paid to the decades-old dioramas, restored by National Museum specialists adopting modern approaches - Turan tiger and wild boar displayed on Kura floodplain forest; Fauna of Georgia's lakes and wetlands and variety of mammals on Vere river panorama.
The exhibition "Caucasus Biodiversity" represents a synthesis of traditional museology, perennial scientific researches, and modern technological capabilities. It is a powerful educational hub for the study of natural history - concerning visitors of all ages, especially children and the youth.
